At the same time with the FX30 announcement Sony revealed two larger sizes CFexpress Type A TOUGH Memory Cards – 320GB and 640GB. The 640GB model will be the largest-capacity card of this type. Even though Sony has dramatically increased the sizes of these cards (from 80GB to 640GB), the speeds have remained the same. This series has rated of up to 800 MB/s read and 700 MB/s write speeds.
The 320GB card will cost $650.00 and the 640GB card will cost a mind-blowing $1,250 (US dollars). This is about three times the price of their Type B brothers, and for less than half of the speed.
Sony claims that the cards are optimized for continuous, high-bandwidth data writing. This make them ideal for professional high-bitrate video recording, such as 4K 120p, where dependability is critical. They support VPG (Video Performance Guarantee) 400 standard.
Because of the TOUGH card design, the CFexpress Type A memory cards offer superior strength up to 10x greater than the CFexpressType A standard, additional rigidity tested to 150 newtons of force, and can withstand falls of up to 24.6 feet (7.5 meters). They have a dust and water-resistant design with IP57 rating.
