On December 7, 2018 Sony released a notification about the latest software update (ver.2.00) for their A7III and A7RIII cameras. The software was released about two months ago but Sony discovered some issues, and removed it from their website. In the notifications they apologize for any inconvenience Sony Firmware Delay may cause, and assure their customers that a solution will be published around mid-December.
The following issues may occur with our α7R III and α7 III interchangeable lens digital cameras:
- In rare cases, your α7R III or α7 III model may stop functioning while writing RAW data onto an SD card that has already been used multiple times.
- With the α7R III, taking a picture while using the Auto Review function may occasionally cause the camera to stop responding.
Sony recommends everyone with software ver. 2.00 to take the following precautions until the release of the new firmware update:
- Before taking new pictures, back-up your data and format the memory cards in both slots on the camera, or use a new memory card.
- Ensure the Auto Review function is off when taking pictures.
The official notification can be found on Sony’s website: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7rm3/articles/00204957
The initial updates were published here (now with important notes), and here.
2018 has been full of fixes, recalls and software updates for Sony. The last I was writing about were the 50mm f/1.4 lens recall and the Out of focus issues recall of the 24-105mm. I guess this is the price for all innovative technology advancements we see from Sony.
